Introduction:
What is Plant Quarantine and why?

Plant Quarantine is a legal measure to prevent the infiltration and spread of destructive

or harmful insects and disease organisms transported with plants and plant products in
import and export activities within the country and in other countries respectively.
The word Quarantine is derived from the Italian word Quaranta or Forty. Quaranta or
Forty means forty (40) days. The Quarantine practice was still in force in the fourteenth
century. At the time, however, its purpose was only to stop human disease transmission.
At that time, when a foreign ship arrived at the port of a country, it was detained for
40 days, its main purpose was that if the passengers and sailors arriving with the ship
brought any germs on their bodies, it would be revealed within this forty-day period and
it would be treated with appropriate treatment. Purification is done before entering the
country.
